Wooden Toy Crane | Fagus

Children find the levers and pulleys of the grown-up world endlessly compelling—how things lift, how they swing, how something small can move something big. We chose this crane because it hands over the job site in miniature: a working winch, a rotating boom, and the quiet satisfaction of hoisting a block from the floor to wherever blocks need to go next.

Fagus has been making wooden toys in Germany since 1982, employing people with disabilities in a workshop that treats both craft and community as equally important. Every toy is built to last—durable construction, high playing value, wood from sustainable German forestry—because toys that survive childhood are toys that matter. This crane turns any corner of the floor into a construction zone where small operators can move serious cargo with the gravity it deserves.

The first load hoisted will be a block. The second will be a stuffed animal who needs to get to the top of the bookshelf for reasons that will be explained at length. By evening the crane will have a full schedule, a list of pending projects, and a reputation for never being late to a job.
