Fire Engine
Fagus Fire Engine
A real wooden fire engine, with a ladder that reaches nearly as far as the imagination does.
The three-section ladder extends to an impressive 26 inches, rotates from side to side, and adjusts vertically so the six included firefighters can get wherever the emergency happens to be. The truck itself is steerable, substantial, and wonderfully satisfying to operate.
And then there’s the way Fagus builds it.
The body, joints, connections and moving parts are worked out almost entirely in wood, with wooden axles and traditional dowel-and-glue construction rather than metal fasteners. No nails. No screws. No staples. It’s remarkably clever engineering, executed in solid beech and built with the kind of care that makes these vehicles feel closer to heirloom machines than ordinary toys.
A fire engine with plenty to do—and plenty worth looking closely at.
