The next-to-skin layer
Brighton Base Layer. Seamless merino mesh — 52% merino in the solid colors — with closed knit on the sleeves where your wrists need it. Wear it alone on cool days or under the Harrier when it’s really cold.

Tell us what the thermometer says before sunrise. We’ll lay out exactly what to put on — from the socks up.
An old rule
“Dress as if it’s twenty degrees warmer than it is.”
Every runner learns it eventually, usually a mile in, overdressed and cooking. It’s a good rule. It’s also where the advice stops. Twenty degrees warmer than what, exactly — and in which layers, and do the hands count? So we built the rest of the rule.

From the Running Class
Tracksmith started in 2014 in Wellesley, Massachusetts — at the halfway point of the Boston Marathon. Their whole idea is simple: the runner who isn’t paid to do this, but does it anyway, at dawn, in February, deserves gear made with real care.
You can see it in the small decisions. The Inverno Gloves reverse the fabric on the thumb and forefinger, brushed side out, because running noses need somewhere soft to go. The Harrier has thumbholes. The Turnover Tights have a zip pocket exactly where your hand lands.

How the layers work
Brighton Base Layer. Seamless merino mesh — 52% merino in the solid colors — with closed knit on the sleeves where your wrists need it. Wear it alone on cool days or under the Harrier when it’s really cold.
Harrier Long Sleeve. 50% 17.5-micron merino with 37.5® Technology for temperature and moisture. Raglan sleeves, no shoulder seams to rub, and thumbholes at the cuffs.
Turnover Tights. Italian Inverno Blend with a brushed back. Three drop-in pockets plus a zip pocket for your phone. For milder mornings, the Twilight Half Tights.
Inverno Gloves with touchpads, Prospect Beanie in 100% lambswool, and Merino Tube Socks — 56% wool. Small pieces. The ones you notice most when they’re missing.
The first mile is always the coldest.

Rarely carries a short list of things worth caring about — made by people who clearly care, too. Tracksmith has been on that list since the first frost.
Tracksmith’s fits run true. The Harrier is a relaxed fit; the Turnover Tights are mid-rise and fit like a second skin, so if you’re between sizes and like room, go up. Each product page has the full size details.
Merino stays warm when damp, which matters when you’re sweating in the cold. It also tends to hold onto smells far less than synthetics — so the Harrier can survive a couple of runs between washes.
We don’t carry a Tracksmith shell right now, and we’d rather not pretend otherwise. Below about 25°F, or in real wind, add the windbreaker you already own over the Harrier.
Of course. Use “Every piece, one at a time” above, or tap any item on the bench to open its page.
Yes. Every full kit on this page comes in over $120, so it ships free in the U.S. If you skip pieces you already own, the bar under your kit shows exactly how close you are.
