A small wooden boat from SABO Concept, the husband-and-wife studio in Poltava, Ukraine. Elena designs, Dmitriy crafts. They work in solid beech because they prefer wood over plastic for children, and their approach — minimalism meeting deliberate color and form — produces toys meant to be held and felt, not just displayed. This one is painted with non-toxic water-based color that lets the grain show through, and it comes with paper flags made from cardboard and cotton fabric. Children float it, name it, sail it in circles around the tub, and pack it in bags for trips. It gets promoted to admiral, tasked with escorting reluctant swimmers, and rediscovered on shelves months later when the whole cycle begins again. The kind of small craft that earns its place through repeated use rather than spectacle.
