Sven-Saw 21" Folding Saw | 14 oz | Made in USA

Richard Swenson invented the Sven-Saw in 1961 after witnessing an axe accident during a portage in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. He figured there had to be a better way to process wood in the backcountry without bleeding all over the place. The result: a folding saw with the blade protected by its own handle, no plastic parts, manufactured and packaged in Minnesota by a family-owned company that's been at it since the beginning. This 21-inch model is the original design. Weighs 14 ounces, folds down to 23 inches long, cuts through 6-inch logs. Handle is engraved with the Sven-Saw name and Little Sven illustration. Parts are packaged by Opportunity Partners in Minnetonka, a nonprofit providing employment for people with disabilities.

Richard Swenson's first sale was to Jim Whittaker at REI in 1962, back when REI was one guy in a shop. Whittaker ordered six saws, then twelve more before Richard got home. Decades later the saw is still around and REI is slightly larger. Call it proof that solving one specific annoying problem extremely well beats solving everything poorly.
