Chris Elfering founded LOCHBY after leaving the Army and discovering that most paper wasn't up to the task of handling fountain pen ink without feathering or bleeding through. He tracked down Tomoe River paper from Japan—the stuff fountain pen people swear by—but the notebooks using it weren't built to travel or take a beating. So he made his own. This pocket-size refill uses 68 gsm Tomoe River paper with a 5mm dot grid, wrapped in a simple Kraft cover and stitch-bound. It's designed in the USA, made with materials from Japan, and assembled in Taiwan. Fits the Mini Field Journal and Pocket Journal as a refill.

Tomoe River paper is what happens when Japan decides regular paper isn't taking ink seriously enough. It's thin as a secret and tough as a grudge. Fountain pen people hoard it. You can write on both sides without the ink staging a jail break to the next page.
