Emily Fischer founded Haptic Lab in Brooklyn in 2009 after stitching quilted maps to help her mother, who was diagnosed with glaucoma, navigate the world by touch. That simple idea — objects you can feel, materials that spark memory — still drives everything the studio makes. This kite is handmade in collaboration with Balinese artisans using ripstop nylon, bamboo, and string. It ships flat in a kraft envelope with basic kite flying twine and assembly instructions. Functional and flyable, it works best in strong wind on a beach or hilltop. It also doubles as a baby mobile, which is the kind of multitasking we respect.

Assemble it once, fly it twice, then watch it spend six months pinned to a bedroom ceiling as décor while someone insists they'll take it back to the beach soon. Narrator: they will not. Instead it becomes a conversation piece about that one perfect afternoon when the wind cooperated and nobody cried.
