Chris Elfering founded LOCHBY after realizing fountain pen ink feathered and bled through regular paper. He found Tomoe River paper from Japan—thin, smooth, perfect for fountain pens—but the notebooks using it weren't built to last or easy to carry. So he made one that was. The Field Journal is a rugged refillable notebook designed for journaling and sketching, built with waxed canvas from South Korea and Tomoe River paper refills assembled in Taiwan. It's the kind of thing you keep using because it doesn't fall apart.

Somewhere in an alternate universe, Chris Elfering is still using a floppy notebook that falls apart every three months and quietly resenting it. In this universe, he made something better and now we all get to benefit from his fountain pen obsession. You're welcome.

  • Refillable notebook system with Tomoe River paper from Japan
  • Waxed canvas exterior sourced from South Korea
  • Designed specifically for fountain pen ink—no feathering or bleed-through
  • Suitable for journaling, sketching, and everyday writing
  • Refills assembled in Taiwan by skilled artisans
