Roland Tyson started sewing outdoor gear in his childhood bedroom in 1983. By 1991, after outfitting an unusual first ascent of Mt. Everest — a 1126+ kilometer trek from sea level to a solo summit — Sea to Summit was born. Penny Sanderson joined in 1993, and together they spent months every year climbing, sailing, trekking, and testing prototypes in wild places. The Detour kettle is what happens when that decades-long obsession with weight and durability meets the reality of limited pack space. It's a full 1.6-liter kettle with a stainless steel base and lid, silicone sides, and double glass-reinforced nylon handles. Works on gas, radiant electric, and many induction cooktops. The silicone is heat-resistant to 225°C and certified to EU and FDA food-grade standards.
A kettle that squashes down to two and a half inches feels like cheating. You get the full boil, none of the bulk, and a small quiet victory every time you pack it away.
