A small wooden airplane with a mouse pilot, made by Elena and Dmitriy of SABO concept in Poltava, Ukraine. She designs; he works the wood. Together they build toys from beech and linden, finished with oil-wax and water-based paint that lets the grain show through, skipping plastic entirely because their customers are children and they take that seriously.
The plane is held together with magnets, fits in small hands, and weighs just 70 grams. Hand it over and the mouse will fly three reconnaissance missions before being grounded for unauthorized detours over the bookshelf. By afternoon the plane's been reassigned as a delivery service for invisible mail, then as a getaway vehicle in a stuffed-animal heist no one will explain. Magnets mean the wings come off mid-flight, which is either a design flaw or an exciting emergency landing depending on who's telling the story. Their work balances minimalism with enough color and line to make something you want to pick up and feel, not just look at.
