Messermeister started in 1981 when Bernd and Debra Dressler began distributing German and Japanese knives, then decided to design their own. In 1992, they redesigned the German knife by ditching the full bolster so you could sharpen the entire blade, heel to tip, and sharpened everything to a polished 15° edge — making them the sharpest German cutlery on the market. After Bernd passed in 2002, daughters Chelcea and Kirsten joined the business, and in 2010 took over leadership, making Messermeister the only fully women-owned and operated knife company in the world. They're one of the few companies still producing hot-drop, hammer forged knives the traditional way.
