Camp wood
Enough head weight for meaningful bites without turning a weekend firewood pile into a full felling job.
Hand-forged Maine wedge camp axe
A working camp axe with deep Maine roots: forged one at a time in South Portland from U.S. steel, hung on A+ hickory, and shipped with a Maine-made leather sheath.
Field Notes
The Allagash Cruiser sits in the practical middle: more capable than a hatchet, easier to carry than a full-size felling axe, and balanced for the ordinary work that makes a campsite run.
A dependable middleweight axe for the work that makes camp run: kindling, small rounds, brush, and deadfall.
Built For Real Work
The cruiser pattern earns its keep in the repeat tasks: splitting small rounds, knocking limbs from deadfall, prepping kindling, and riding along when a hatchet feels under-gunned.
Enough head weight for meaningful bites without turning a weekend firewood pile into a full felling job.
A practical length for limbing deadfall and clearing small obstructions around camp, cabin, or truck.
Sharp, controllable, and sized for quick prep when the work is measured in minutes, not cords.
Origin
The Allagash Cruiser is hand-crafted by Brant & Cochran, a Maine maker keeping the local wedge pattern alive. The head is forged from U.S. steel, the handle is A+ hickory, and the sheath is custom leather made in Maine.
That matters because the axe is supposed to age into use. The steel should show work. The hickory should polish where your hand lands. The sheath should darken from the truck, the pack, and the woodpile.
Details
You can see where the money goes: forged steel, straight-grain hickory, and leather protection included with the axe.
The handle is the maker's own design, chosen for grain, feel, and practical swing control.
Hand-forged steel with a working edge that is meant to bite cleanly and maintainable over years of use.
Shipped with a leather sheath so it can live with real gear instead of waiting in a display rack.
The kind of tool that looks better after the first season, and better still after the tenth.
